Partnership in focus: Triodos Bank

Guest writer, Tom from Triodos Bank, gives us an insight into the world of ethical banking. Find out how you can help the Vegetarian Society through our partners.

“I’ve been with Triodos for just over four years now, and enjoy working with a range of UK charities. I’m also a vegetarian myself, so it’s great to be looking after the bank’s partnership with the Vegetarian Society.

For anyone who has changed their diet based on their ethics the idea of consumer activism – making purchasing decisions to opt out of the things we don’t like and into the things we do - is nothing new.

Increasingly people are taking an interest in how the things they buy are sourced; from food to clothes to coffee. Ethical consumers have demonstrated that everyday purchasing decisions can have a huge impact, helping fair trade and organic products go from niche to mainstream.

More recently the spotlight has widened to include how the things that matter the most are financed, so why not understand and challenge how the money system works and act on it?

Triodos Bank is a sustainable financial institution that publishes details of all the businesses it lends money to. These include a range of vegetarian businesses,  cafés and restaurants like Edinburgh based Henderson’s Café (an organic café-restaurant serving fresh vegetarian food) and workers’ cooperatives like Essential Trading (that supply organic, GMO free, fair trade, vegetarian and vegan wholefoods to independent traders). Triodos Bank also lends to environmental organisations, and social enterprises such as Fairtrade coffee and tea company; Cafédirect, and Ecotricity, a pioneering green energy supplier”.

How Triodos Bank are helping the Vegetarian Society

Triodos Bank maintains partnerships with a selection of charities including the Vegetarian Society. For anyone who visits triodos.co.uk/vegetarian, opens a Triodos savings account and deposits £100 or more, Triodos will donate £40 to the Vegetarian Society*.

With your help, Triodos will be able to join us on the journey towards a kinder future. Through donations we receive, we will be able to inform and inspire more people through our work in schools, with local community groups and through offering vegetarian tuition to those that need it the most.

With the donation that Triodos Bank will make to the Vegetarian Society, you can make marvellous things happen without donating a penny yourself. Why not make your consumer choices make a huge impact for the next generation of vegetarians, with a little help from our partners.
