Local group for both the Vegetarian Society and the Vegan Society.
Part of London and Home Counties Herbivores: http://www.meetup.com/LHCveg/
Our members: GVS welcomes vegetarians of all categories (lacto-ovo-veg, lacto-veg, ovo-veg, vegans), as well as sympathisers and those aspiring towards vegetarianism. Our group covers a wide age range, and we've about 140 households on our mailing list.
To join our group: please ring if possible (ideally on weekend afternoons), as it's good to have some initial contact with new members. Most information is now sent by e-mail, but to join GVS you'll also need to give your postal address and 'phone number (landline if available). We don't charge a subscription for those on e-mail, but voluntary donations are welcome and can fund future outreach.
News: the Secretary (who's been running the group since 2001), is now mainly arranging social events (usually one per month) until a new organiser can take over. Outreach may be arranged for National Vegetarian Week in May and/or World Vegan Month in November.
Social events: at present we have meals out, bring-and-share meals, and occasional walks. We often eat at Guildford's vegetarian restaurant (The Beano at Guildford Institute, Ward Street). NB In 2016 monthly socials will be on variable dates of the month. Our events in public places (eg meals out) are usually listed on our Meetup site.
Public outreach events: (see note above). In the past this has included food tastings, information stalls, leafleting, library displays, public talks, and organising Guildford's first Compassionate Living Fair (October 2007 at The Guildhall).
Isle of Wight Vegetarians and Vegans
Dave and Sally Burnett Tel: 01983 868261 email: email@example.com
Here at the Isle of Wight Vegetarians & Vegans, we have seen many changes since our group started in 1976. Whilst in our hey day we had over 100 members we now have forgone the formal membership system and operate purely as friends so it costs nothing by way of membership. We can stay in touch via emails or those who prefer to receive a quarterly newsletter through the post can supply us with 4 stamped addressed envelopes for the year.
In the past our activities have included bike rides, walks, BBQ's, American suppers, quiz nights and general social get togethers. We normally meet on the third Thursday of each month at 7.30pm but this is not set in stone. We are a very friendly group of people who all derive much pleasure from sharing our more compassionate lifestyle. Our group income is from sales of our two home produced Vegan cookery books 'Meals without Squeals' & 'More Meals without Squeals'. At our annual gathering we turn any profits into donations for deserving animal and human charities.

We also encourge a broader view to encompass environmental aspects of life such as organic food production and recycling. Socially we are active as well; holding an annual garden party, meals out, trips and visits and now an occasional newsletter. We also nominate an animal charity to support each year.
