Get together, cook, eat and share!

  • Looking to share food with a large group of people can be quite a commitment but can also be fun and rewarding – think of street parties or picnics. Our Share toolkit has great recipe ideas for larger numbers.

  • Barbecues are great sharing events and they come in all shapes and sizes, a veggie barbecue is brilliantly inclusive. Juicy grilled field mushrooms, slabs of herbed halloumi and your favourite bought veggie burgers make great mainstays to go with a zingy slaw, corn on the cob or a crisp green salad.

  • Try a more unusual sharing event. If you are an allotment holder what about an allotment party – bringing a dish to share using home grown produce. Host a pop-up supper club or restaurant - we’ve lots of advice and tips in the Share toolkit.

  • In Finland there’s a Restaurant Day which turns Helsinki into one large restaurant with citizens becoming chefs!

  • The Restaurant Day sees DIY pop up cafés appear on barges, shops, old railway lines and homes. Restaurant Day now happens in 68 countries.

  • In the UK the Casserole Club – matches willing cooks with people who live alone. The cooks make an extra portion and deliver it to their diner. Strengthening community ties and intergenerational links.

  • Potluck lunches are a brilliant way to share before or after a meeting, group walk or evening out. It’s simple everyone brings some food along to share – a collection of cookery greatest hits.

  • Sharing food and all the benefits that come with it, is hugely positive even if you stick to feeding friends, neighbours and colleagues. But cooking homemade food for someone who can’t cook for themselves or feeding charity volunteers can be really fulfilling, the Share toolkit has a sharing for good section.
