In the news

Horse in a fieldJanuary's news that a number of beef burgers had been found to contain horsemeat attracted lots of media attention but seemed to be a one-off. Since then more and more cases have come to light and the extent of the problem has become all too apparent.

Here at the Vegetarian Society we have made the point that if people are concerned about eating horse, they should consider why they class some animals as friends and others as food. We highlighted the appalling abuse of farm animals on several regional radio stations and BBC Radio 5 Live’s Richard Bacon programme. We have also talked about how people can become veggie, which food sources you can still trust and just how easy it is to be meat free on Russian radio and Channel Four News among others.
